The conservation continues
with Sandra discussing quality education in Saint Lucia for Early Childhood.
Sandra
stated that the discussion of quality education is always a topic of conservation
among teachers. According to her, teachers are constantly striving to build a
strong relationship with families and children especially in Early Childhood. Her
colleagues want parents to have access to all the available resources in their perspective
communities. To insure this happens, the staff attends monthly professional workshops
discussing how to make improvements. For example, they discuss the importance
of proper nutrient and vaccination because they want students arriving to
school healthy and ready to learn.
In
Addition, teachers attend training that includes preparing them with current
information relating to best practices such as appropriate curriculum instruction.
She continues by saying her goal for students in Saint Lucia involve them understanding
the material being taught. In order for this to happen she must and should
attend those meetings. She feels it will make her a better educator and will
enhance her teaching. When she finishes a great training workshop she wants to
teach her students the material right away. Sandra is also aware that some workshops
may not pertain to her direct instruction, but attending workshops are very
important for her because learning about the community could be vital in
helping families. Her dream is to continue having the drive and spirit to learn
and the hope that her students feel the same. As our conservation was coming to
a close she said, “I went into education to help children and I want them to get
the best education possible”.
I
gain several insights into Saint Lucia educational system when I speak to her. She has a beautiful love for her country. It
is wonderful to know that teachers in her community attend workshops in order to
improve education. All children deserve quality care and teachers like Sandra
are making a difference. Her passion for education will continue in her
students.
Georgiana,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with everything Sandra said to you. Having quality education is very important, just as important as building relationships with families. It is never too much to gain knowledge about different curriculum or new curriculum. Thank you for sharing.
