Due to conflicts in congress about Obama Care the government has decided to shut down.  What does this mean for American Families? The decision to shut down can have a negative effect on families. Many programs are currently without funding. Programs need the funds to provide for families in need. Those funds are allocated to institutions for nutrition programs for women, infants, and children. The recent report is that families who receive WIC benefits will be affected; many families rely on WIC as a way to feed their children. Head Start programs are also not receiving funds at the moment; if the government continues the shut down many more families will be placed in difficult situations. Congress needs to realize that people cannot afford to be without the necessary services promise to them.

Advocates are working hard to ensure that congress fulfill its promise to families. They are using many strategies to promote their agenda in order to improve the system. For example, Voices for America's Children is an organization that helps to ensure that children are getting proper healthcare such as medical involving medicaid ,nutrition assistance like food stamp.  One of there mission is to make the government responsible for providing children with proper health care.

The organization appeals to me because every child in the United States should have affordable health care. Congress should be about improving system for all families not shutting down the system and putting children and their families at risk.

  1. Georgina,
I agree that children should have access to health care. Health is an elment of early childhood systems. As a result, children are more productive in school when they are healthy.

  2. So many agencies and resources for families are struggling right now, it is a shame. There are so many families who depend on these resources and programs, and they are doing without because our government cannot come together. I think we need to have more people fighting for what is right for the children and families and helping the government understand what kind of impact their actions can have on the people they are supposed to be serving.

  3. Affordable healthcare is an issue that we may never see a solution for. No matter what suggestions are made, someone will always be against it, even if it makes the US a healthier nation.

  4. Luckily there are programs for low income families like Healthy Way LA, Healthy Families, Medi-cal and even Free Clinics, Planned Parenthood to help young teenagers. These resources alone is a big support to families. There are resources out there and families in need have to learn how to access these resources.
