In
the hypothetical family situation, I decided to be a single parent living in poverty
raising a child with Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida. A child living with Hydrocephalus
has excessive fluid in the brain. Doctors in most cases
place a shunt in the brain in order drain the excessive fluid. Hydrocephalus
can cause problems with motor skills, uncontrolled bladder, memory loss, and
double vision. Children often suffer frequent seizures which can cause brain damage. “Hydrocephalus
affects about 1 out of every 500 children”. Spina bifida affects 1 in 1000 birth.
It is one of the most common defects in babies.
Georgia,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the information about the family with a disabled child. This is a great scenario for the final project.
Georgiana,
ReplyDeleteAwesome information!! I'm already learning about Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida, and I'm looking forward to learning more about it. Thanks for sharing!
Georgiana,
ReplyDeleteI am interested to see where you go with this scenario. These conditions can be so challenging for the child as well as the family. Having worked with so many cases like this, I can tell you that each is unique and they all have different needs. Great choice for a systems study. Good luck!!
