My
personal perspective is that a majority of individuals want quality services
for children in early care and education. The current public opinion includes
proper regulation such as providing childcare workers with an opportunity to
achieve licensure that involves the correct training. In addition, I believe
that many people feel the childcare and education should be affordable for
families regardless of economic status. The indicators that influence my
thinking have to do with community members and parents asking for changes in
the system. When you work in education there are many indicators to suggest
that certain aspect of the system needs to change. For example, quality
childcare centers are a serious concern for me. I have seen many centers that
are nothing but a babysitting service. Very little is done to train individuals
how to properly care for children.
I
hope over the next five years there will be real changes in some of these
centers with strict regulations. Many centers for example employ high school
students who lack any training. I really hope the state start to crack down on
centers that regularly employ young people without sufficient experience. In
some cases many teenagers are working without proper training in CPR and this
can lead to serious problems if anything goes terrible wrong while children are
in their care. Furthermore, education is about learning and everyone involve
should be about learning new ways to improve system.
I
hope some of these changes will allow all parties involve understanding helping
children to become social active participants in society should be the ultimate
goal. Child care is not just an environment to put children in hopes that
someone will just watch them for a few hours. Great child care is about
providing the best services that will allow children to grow emotionally and
physically. If these changes are not implemented on a national level then the
ultimate result will be children continuing not to receive proper care.
I completely understand your concerns for some of the child care centers. I work with so many centers where the teachers are not properly trained, they are overworked and underpaid. A lot of them are just wishing they had more support and more access to training and education. I hope, like you do, that we can make some changes in this system!!

Georgia,
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more programs designed to enable middle income families to qualify for quality early childhood education programs. Vouchers or child care assistance can help more families to gain access.
