Adjourning Stage

Finding a great place to work with people you admire can be difficult. A really great friend of mine gave me an opportunity to work with her at a new daycare center. I initially thought I was going to help set up the center, but instead I was asked to help create the center’s curriculum. Needless to say, I was surprised.  We worked together to establish a curriculum we both felt would benefit all children in the center. It was a collaborative and enjoyable experience.  When it was time to leave, I felt a great sense of loss.  The experience of working with her allowed me to further seek professional knowledge in early childhood education. My friend had the confidence to take a chance on me, and I will always be grateful to her.  The adjourning ritual was simple and nice. We had a cup of coffee and talked about our hopes for the center.

The adjourning stage is an essential part of teamwork because it gives people a chance to reflect on the task and make improvement if needed. Therefore, as I come close to finishing this journey in my educational pursuit, it is very difficult to say what group of discussions had the best impact on me thus far. For this reason, I will say they all left an indelible mark.  Communicating our personal perspectives and growth in early childhood education will help us to continue growing as professionals.

  1. That was great to a collaborative experience in planning and accomplishing something as important as curriculum for young children. The confidence placed in you would probably not have occurred if there was not the element of trust along with the fact that you could catch hold of the vision and run with it. The two of you had the ability to communicate effectively to establish clear goals and go through the stages to reach your goal.

  2. It must have been fun to write the curriculum for a center. It sounds like your experience was a positive one. Once you have a good working relationship with a partner or a group, It's really hard to leave a situation like that. Your friend must have thought very highly of you to ask you to write the curriculum for a center. I'm glad you were able to separate from your experience on a positive note.
