I
have to say very little surprised me about the result of the assessments. After
each assessment my friend and colleague wanted to talk about the result. We all
agreed that these kinds of assessments tend to be very subjective. For example, you can get a score one or two points
away from the next category. Furthermore, I think depending on the
circumstances you can fall into any category on any given day of the week. The
one insight I gained this week is if I do not take note of my communication
skill I can upset someone in a negative way without trying to. In addition, it is equally important to have a
balance between the considerations of others without attacking who they are as
a person. In very heated discussions or arguments this can be very difficult
for many people.
I
felt the feedback from friend was more honest. I have known her for a while so
I expected her to not refrain from having an honest discussion. However, I feel my colleague was more uncertain,
for which I completely understand because we only have encounters on the days
we work, therefore, I think it would be hard for her to fully assess me. She
really enjoyed the assessment in fact she took one herself and we discussed her
result.
Georgiana,
ReplyDeleteI wasn't surprised my scores either and I agree it was subjective. The scores are close to each other and yes we all fall into all of them. I believe if we don't know ourselves well, when we communicate it's easy to not make sense as well as offend someone. Thank you for sharing
Georgiana,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you in that any one of the categories could describe me in a certain situation. This is why it was hard for me to determine which situations to refer to when thinking of my answers. My answers would definitely change if I was basing them off of my interactions with friends and family compared to colleagues or children and families. However, I was kind of surprised to find out that my husband and close friend evaluated me in a very similar manner, with the exception of the Communication Anxiety Inventory. I think I was harder on myself in this area. It would be interesting to rate them and compare their own answers to mine.
I agree with you ladies, I wasn't surprise with my outcome of my scores, especially when I scored myself. Some of the questions mostly fit my character. I think this was a great assessment. It reminds me when we have to perform assessments on our students. this lets us know that kids aren't the only ones that can have assessments done. lol!
