This week I’ve explored
Communication and Information links outside my initial research assignment. The
links are http://www.unesco.org/new/en/communication-and-information/
and http://www.unric.org/en/latest-un-buzz/28209-world-radio-day-2013.
This link covered information such as WORLD
RADIO DAY. February 13, 2013 was the
day UNESCO celebrates Radio Day.
“On 13 February, UNESCO celebrates radio as a medium
vital to its mission of creating a more peaceful, more sustainable and more
inclusive future for all. World Radio Day is an opportunity to celebrate radio
as a medium; to improve international cooperation between broadcasters; and to
promote diversified content, access to information and freedom of expression
over the airwaves”.
Radio can introduce the audience to new information around the world related to early childhood.
Many people around the world lack the use of an internet but more have access to a radio. The Radio is one of the greatest resource for information around the world.
I also explored Spotlight on Memory of the World heritage: The horrors of the Holocaust and why it's sufficient in teaching children empathy for others. Educators teaching for example about Ann Frank can help young children learn to understand that they must respect everyone regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity.
In exploring the web site I learned about World Radio Day. I never knew a day like this existed. I love listening to the radio so it was a delight to read that there is such a day.
Hi Georgiana,
ReplyDeleteI think the fact that UNESCO realized that radio was an accessible media by all shows how much UNESCO is tuned in to the world and respects all population and want to reach them all. Which podcast did you listen to on their website?
Hi Georgiana, I really enjoyed reading your blog. I especially enjoyed the video on the blog. I believe that it is true about the fact that radio can introduce the audience to new information. Every time you turn around there is so much information that you hear on the radio.
