Daily Supports

Magic Jack is my friend while living abroad.

I always talk to my family and friends with my trusted friend Magic Jack. Even though I’m living in another country my family always wants to know about my travels.  My family asking for pictures has become the norm for me. My friends and I talk on Magic Jack and discuss my experience living abroad. It would be difficult for me living in another country without the support of family and friends. If they were gone from my life it would be challenge, however, I know the values I was taught will continue throughout the rest of my life.

I can’t imagine waking up and communicating in a language I don’t understand and no one in the world understands.  I would hope my family and friends would not think I’m possessed and try to remove the demon out of my body.  After being taken to the hospital by my family for full examination and the doctors determined that there is no neurological brain damage and I’m not going crazy, I would look at the doctors like a lost puppy and then proceed to cry. My daily struggles would most certainly involve trying to communicate and the hopes that someone understands me. Out of shear shock I would be pointing everywhere while trying to remain calm. There is absolutely no doubt I would try to find a way to access the internet in an attempt to communicate with someone. I would also hope that family and friends and the kindness of strangers would assist me in navigating daily activities. For example, going to the local bank, supermarket, work, and to be able to communicate with people in my community will be great asset to my everyday living. Without support I know I would have a difficult time adjusting to my new condition.  If my friends and family did not exist I would only have the kindness of strangers to rely on and don’t know if that would be enough.

  1. I love this! You are so right in the challenges that must face children and families that speak different languages. It must be so difficult to maneuver around a society and community where they cannot communicate. Great post!!
