Ethical Responsibilities of the Family
1-2.3 "To welcome all family members and encourage them to participate in the programs" NAEYC
Families are the most important foundation to a child's life. It is my professional goal to work with families and provide the necessary services they need.
Ethical Responsibilities to community and society
1.4.6 "To promote knowledge and understanding of young children and their needs. To work toward greater societal acknowledgment of children’s rights and greater social acceptance of responsibility for the well-being of all children". NAEYC
Every child has rights under protection of the law. It is my professional goal to ensure all children are protected in my care. I have a professional responsibility to protect children because they cannot protect themselves.
Professional Development and Preparation
3. "We shall be responsible for maintaining the appropriate national, state, or other credential or
licensure requirements for the services we provide while maintaining our competence in practice
and research by ongoing participation in professional development and education activities". DEC
Professional development is the most important part of being an educator. As a professional I want to ensure that I am well informed about current information in the field.
I agree that families are the foundation to a child's education and it is important to work together as a partners to ensure the child's success.

DEC #3. This is so important to child care owners. Many times we get so involved in what is going on in our centers that we forget that we are a part of a bigger world. Licensing standards change often, usually as a result of something that has happened to a child in a center. I was once told, learning about what is right and good for children is fine but if we don't take care of the business side of our centers then we fail and serve no one.
ReplyDeleteGeorgina,
ReplyDeleteIt is important for families to be involved and participate in their child's education. I think it is crucial to welcome families and encourage them to be part of what is going on in the classroom. I like the second ideal you chose, too, because it talks about advocating for children, and I agree that that is a big part of education.
Georgina,
ReplyDeleteFamilies success equals children's success. It is important that we strive to create welcoming atmospheres to help families feel welcomed in all areas of the program. In our Head Start program, we have parents who sub in classrooms and children love to have a mommy or daddy read to them or play during center activities. Families really do want to be a part of what is happening with their children.
Georgiana, I have enjoyed reading your posts on your blog. Although we are not in the same discussion group, I have learned a lot about you especially in your childhood web post. I wish you lots of luck and hope you continue your passion for early childhood.
