Personal Childhood blog

My grandmother--- My grandmother was a strong woman. Her work ethic could not be matched by anyone in the family. She taught all daughters to be strong. My grandmother told all her girls that every woman needs a plot of land to call her own. She was firm in the way she helped raised my brother, cousin and myself. We knew without question every Sunday was church day. I knew without fail, I would meet on the veranda before school in order for her to do my hair. My hair was always comb, the same way every single morning. When doing my hair she would always hold your brother hand when walking to school. I always said yes. She would watch my brother walk to school holding hands but as soon she turned the corner, he would let go of my hand.

My Mother---- My mother is the most wonderful woman to ever walk the earth. I love when I’m around my mother. She taught me to be independent and not be afraid to see the world. I know my mother’s walk; I know how she touches her face. When cooks in the kitchen I'm always one hundred percent sure what pot she is going to use the cook rice for dinner.

My Aunt---- My aunt is a beautiful woman. Her feet are always firmly placed on ground. She knows what she wants and she is going to get it. She would often say to me growing up Georgina make sure you have a plot of land to call your own. Just like my grandmother would say.

Jill--------My cousin Jill house was a great house. I miss the smell and the feel of that house. It was a small house in Jamaica with a nice yard. Her mother always had something on the stove. It was a very warm house. I really miss that house.

Leslie-----My Leslie because as a child I felt he was my very own. He is a very loving man. There were moments he was selfish but I never felt he was selfish with me. He was like a father to me and I truly felt that.

These amazing people have shaped my life in so many ways.  I love to travel because of mother teaching me to be independent. My grandmother has influenced me to love nature, to love every part of my body, from my hair to my toes. My aunt words forever pressing in my mind "Georgiana, make sure you have a plot of land to call your own". Due to her words I can't imagine not owning a plot of land to call my own.  Leslie love for me makes me want to love a man that I feel is truly my own. Family is everything to me. Without these people, I would not be Georgian Angeita Jackson.

  1. Georgiana,
I enjoyed reading about the special people in your life growing up. I particularly enjoyed reading how important it was to own a plot of land. When you mentioned how the houses felt and smelled, I realized how true that is. Certain smells defintely bring back memories. It appears you have a very warm supportive family that wants you to carry on their legacy.

  2. Georgiana,
It was great getting to see how your five family members helped care and nurture you as a child. It's amazing how much we can learn from the people who care about us the most. Furthermore, how much they mold us into the people we are today.

  3. It's nice to see the influential women you had and still have in your life. I agree with your grandmother it is so important as women that we are strong and agile.

It was nice to see your grandmother's wisdom passed down through generations, and the confidence and independence instilled in you by your family.
